Local Transport Plans (LTPs) identify priorities for maintaining and improving local transport systems, based on the needs and wants of residents and organisations in the region, and put forward plans for how they will be achieved. These improvements are then given funding to be put into action.
MyJourney
West Yorkshire’s LTP, which is being developed under the ‘My Journey’ theme, aims to overcome the local-level challenges highlighted by the City Region Strategy to improve transport integration. These challenges include reducing greenhouse gases, improving access to jobs, enhancing social inclusion and encouraging the use of a wider range of travel choices.
‘MyJourney’ is being developed for the West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority by a dedicated Metro team, working in partnership with the county’s five District Councils; Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield. Stakeholders from the transport, regeneration, accessibility, health, education and business sectors will also help shape the Plan.
Partnerships
Consultations with stakeholder groups and residents of West Yorkshire will take place between now and March 2011, when the Plan is due for publication. This will include working together with the region’s Local Strategic Partnerships on other strategies and initiatives, and inviting members of the public to take part in surveys, discussion forums, work shops and focus groups.
Leeds City Region is one of two pilot city regions announced in this year’s Budget. Its Summit, at the Harrogate International Centre on Friday 27 November brought together leading businesses, politicians and regional and national stakeholders to discuss its pilot agenda to boost the city region’s economy.
